Seeing through the eyes of artist Julie Higgins is like donning a pair of Serengeti Drivers, whose rose-colored lenses turn ordinary landscapes from mundane to transcendent. In Higgins' work the energy and sensuality all around us stand out vividly, washed clean of everyday distractions and saturated with color as if struck by sunlight after a storm.
Higgins grew up in the heartland of Kansas, coming into her own in Skagit Valley outside Seattle, traveling on to Mendocino, where she currently lives. Her work has been exhibited at numerous galleries and museums. In her most recent series, fertile valleys give rise to feminine forms cupping slender crescent moons and luscious fruits, and can be seen at The girl & the fig restaurant in Glen Ellen and the MacCallum House Restaurant in Mendocino. Both establishments attract foodies, whose enthusiasm for experiencing the world through their senses is complemented by the boldness of Higgins' use of form and color. Displaying her work in these venues suits Julie's sensibilities and her directness.
"If you see something you like, just pick up the phone and call me," as many admirers of her work have already done. View her work on-line or write P.O. Box 1562, Mendocino, Ca, 95460, or call her at her studio (707) 937-4707.
